If you thought the state of Singapore football couldn’t get any worse, think again. On Sunday, the National Football League (NFL) match between Safsa and Yishun Sentek Mariners descended into a full-on brawl. The video can be found here.
Although NFL is an amateur league, you do expect to watch football and not MMA wannabes in action or pretend gangsters trying to act garang. This brawl is another sign that Singapore football is at the lowest possible level.
On 16 Oct, Singapore fell to its historic lowest ever football ranking of 173rd in the world. Shame Shame.
This year so far, the Singapore national team have not won a single match. And hello, Christmas is coming. The last time Singapore won was in November last year in a friendly against Cambodia, where we won 1-0.
Singapore football needs to reboot the entire system. Nobody has any trust in FAS anymore. The recent tussle for FAS leadership is just but one sign of the rot.
When the whole system is rotten, only a top-to-bottom clean-out will do. We need a top guy in FAS that has true passion for the game. No more FAS presidents who take on the job for their own interests. #sackeveryone
The time for a football saviour has come. After all, when football has hit rock-bottom, the only way is up. Who will be our special one?
